Gold Prices Near $4,400 as Traders Await Make-or-Break CPI Report
Gold prices rose on Wednesday as investors sought safe-haven assets amid renewed geopolitical tensions. Spot gold increased by 0.5% to around $4,387 per ounce in Asian trading, nearing a two-month high reached the day before.
The recent surge in gold prices is partly attributed to weaker labor data, which reduced expectations for another immediate Federal Reserve rate increase. This decline in interest rates makes gold more attractive as it pays no interest.
Investors are awaiting US inflation data, set to be released on Wednesday at 8:30 am ET, which could determine whether the metal's August rebound has further room to run. A softer inflation report would strengthen the argument for keeping rates unchanged, potentially pulling Treasury yields and the dollar lower.
The World Gold Council expects investment to remain the main source of gold-demand growth through the rest of 2026, with Asian and over-the-counter buying becoming increasingly important. Central banks are also expected to remain significant purchasers.
