Gold Prices Plummet After Surprise Rally Fades
Gold prices fell on Thursday as investors took profits after reaching a more than two-month peak. The metal's value decreased by 0.7% to $4,488.19 per ounce at 0750 GMT, down from its highest level since June 2 of $4,525.79.
The US Treasury Department announced that it would double the size of liquidity support buyback operations for longer-dated notes and bonds, which led to a surprise increase in gold prices on Wednesday. This move weakened the dollar and lowered Treasury yields.
According to Ilya Spivak, head of global macro at Tastylive, there was 'a huge rally' in gold, and 'there's going to be a degree of digestion in markets after a big move like that.' The $4,400 to $4,500 price range has been cleared, and if prices hold above this range, the upward momentum is likely to continue.
Edward Meir, Marex analyst, stated that increasing concern about the financial stability of the market with borrowing and debt is 'very bullish for gold.'
