Gold prices in India plummeted to new lows on August 29, 2026, as international bullion prices took a hit. According to reports, US Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's hawkish tone at Jackson Hole led to a sharp drop in global gold prices.

The spot price of gold slipped to around $4,560 per ounce, its lowest level in recent weeks. Silver also felt the pressure, with spot prices falling by about 4.5% to $66 per ounce.

The decline in gold prices was reflected in domestic markets as well, with MCX Gold dropping by nearly 2% to around Rs 1,56,400 per 10 grams. MCX Silver also suffered losses, falling by nearly 2% to around Rs 2,36,651 per kg.

The drop in gold prices can be attributed to the increasing interest rates in the US, which make non-yielding assets like gold less attractive to investors. Warsh's comments at Jackson Hole strengthened expectations that the Fed may remain cautious about cutting rates, putting additional pressure on precious metals.
