Gold Prices Sink Amid Inflation Concerns and Escalating Geopolitical Tensions
Gold and silver prices plummeted on Thursday as inflation concerns mounted amid rising Treasury yields. Spot gold dropped by 1.90% to approximately $4,317.10 per ounce, while spot silver fell by 5.46% to around $63.50. The sharp decline in precious metals was triggered by a 0.4% rise in the Producer Price Index (PPI) for August, alongside a year-over-year increase of 5.4%. Rising energy and diesel prices were notable influences on these figures.
The U.S.-Iran conflict continues to contribute to geopolitical tensions, affecting oil prices and inflationary expectations. Crude oil futures experienced their largest gains in nearly two months as attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz raised shipping risks. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude settled at $102.48 a barrel, up 6.7%, while Brent crude closed at $107.63, a rise of 6.3%.
The market outlook suggests that spot gold bulls are targeting resistance levels above $4,379.38, with aspirations to reach $4,396.30 and ultimately $4,500. Conversely, bearish sentiment indicates a focus on breaking below $4,315.78, with lower targets of $4,290.00 and $4,263.00 in view.
