Gold prices rose significantly on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) last Friday. The October contract for gold traded higher by Rs 1,432, or 0.9 per cent, at Rs 1,60,857 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 2,542 lots.

The price increase was attributed to speculators creating fresh positions on a firm spot demand. The yellow metal contract for October delivery closed the day with a substantial gain.
