Gold Prices Slip Below $4,300 Amid Strong Dollar and Rising Yields

Gold prices have been sliding despite fresh US-Iran strikes, and analysts believe this trend may continue until labor data forces rate-cut odds back up. The strong dollar and rising Treasury yields are key factors in gold's decline.

The combination of Middle East tensions, a stronger dollar, and higher energy costs is strengthening the case for tighter monetary policy, offsetting some of the haven demand that would normally benefit bullion. As a result, bond yields have risen to 4.8%, and markets are assigning roughly a two-thirds probability to a quarter-point Fed increase in September.

The technical picture is also bearish for gold, with prices breaking below their 200-day moving average and slicing through shorter-term support levels. Analysts identified the $4,329-$4,311 area as an important support cluster, but if sustained below this zone, prices could expose $4,216 and $4,203.

The next catalyst for gold is the US labor market, with key reports due on Wednesday and Friday. Economists expect payroll growth to remain subdued, which could provide a counterweight to the Fed's renewed inflation focus.
