Gold Prices Soar 13% in August, Set for Volatile September
The World Gold Council (WGC) reported that gold prices surged by around 13% in August 2026, ending the month at about $4,563 per ounce. This marked gold's third-highest monthly return in the past 25 years.
A WGC research report attributed this rise to strong inflows into Gold ETFs, increased market momentum, a weaker US dollar, and changes in opportunity costs. Investors across several regions boosted their exposure to the precious metal, with rising expectations of further price gains contributing to increased market activity.
The WGC noted that gold-backed ETFs recorded significant inflows in August, totaling around $7.9 billion in Europe, $7.8 billion in North America, and $2 billion in Asia. Net managed fund positions on COMEX also increased by approximately $13 billion during the same period.
