Gold Prices Soar as US Dollar Weakens and Fed Hints at Pause

The price of gold rose last Friday to its highest level since June 5 as the US dollar weakened and the Federal Reserve (Fed) hinted at pausing interest rate hikes. The US Dollar Index fell by approximately 0.3%, making dollar-denominated gold more attractive to overseas buyers.

Spot gold increased by 0.7% to $4,379.95 per ounce, while December gold futures gained 0.4% to settle at $4,437.30 per ounce. The overall increase in gold prices for the week was 0.9%.

The decline in the US dollar is a key support factor for gold prices, as the two assets tend to move inversely. Traders should monitor not only gold prices but also movements in the US Dollar Index, US Treasury yields, and changes in expectations for Fed policy.
