Gold prices in India have surged by Rs 1,000 to reach Rs 1.48 lakh per 10 grams on Thursday.

The increase is due to fresh buying by jewellers and retailers amid firm global trends, according to the All India Sarafa Association.

Saumil Gandhi, Senior Analyst, Commodities at HDFC Securities, attributed the rise in gold prices to a pullback in the US dollar following the Federal Reserve's latest policy announcement.

Gandhi noted that the dollar index hovered around the 101 level after declining nearly 1% in the previous session.

The spot gold traded marginally higher at USD 4,071.55 per ounce and silver rose 1% to USD 58.25 per ounce in international markets.
