Gold Prices Spike Ahead of Aadi Perukku Festival
Gold prices have been experiencing moderate fluctuations over the past few weeks, but a recent uptick in prices is drawing attention from investors. Last week, 22-carat gold saw a decline of ₹640 per sovereign, while silver prices dropped by ₹5 per gram initially before stabilizing at ₹235 per gram for six consecutive days.
The markets remained closed on August 2, resulting in unchanged gold prices at ₹1,05,760 per sovereign. However, the next day, coinciding with the Aadi Perukku festival in Tamil Nadu, gold prices recorded a fresh increase. The price of 22-carat gold rose by ₹240 per sovereign to ₹1,06,000, and the per-gram price climbed by ₹30 to ₹13,250. Silver prices continued to remain unchanged at ₹235 per gram.
The driving forces behind gold prices are a complex interplay of global economic conditions, geopolitical developments, central bank policies, inflation expectations, and currency movements. While tensions between the US and Iran have eased, investors continue to monitor global uncertainties and the strength of the US dollar. A stronger US dollar typically puts downward pressure on gold prices, whereas expectations of lower interest rates or renewed geopolitical risks tend to support higher gold prices.
Financial experts caution against making investment decisions based solely on daily price movements. Instead, long-term investors may benefit from accumulating gold through systematic purchases. During festive seasons like Aadi Perukku, jewellery demand often increases, but investment decisions should be guided by financial goals rather than temporary price fluctuations.
