Gold Prices Stabilize Above $4,500 Amid Treasury Buyback Expansion
The price of gold has stabilized around the $4,500 mark after a 0.1% gain in futures trading to reach $4,549.14.
This follows Wednesday's significant 4% rally and comes as the Treasury Department announced plans to expand its bond-buyback initiative by at least double, resulting in declining long-term yields.
An unexpected Treasury declaration on Wednesday had primarily driven the price movement, officials announcing plans to increase purchasing activity focused on longer-maturity government securities.
This heightened purchasing activity created downward pressure on long-term Treasury yields. Since gold generates no yield, declining rates diminish the comparative advantage of yield-bearing investments, enhancing bullion's appeal to market participants.
