Gold Prices Surge Amid Shifting US Monetary Policy Expectations

Gold and silver prices rose on August 19, driven by investor demand for safer assets amid shifting expectations around US monetary policy. The precious metals have gained significant traction this month, with gold increasing by over 9%.

The trend is attributed to the weak US jobs report, which temporarily eased concerns about another interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve. However, investors are reallocating capital across safer and diversified asset classes as they assess changing economic and monetary policy conditions.

Despite the rise in gold prices, inflows into precious metals declined to Rs 4,084 crore in July from Rs 8,680 crore in June. Investors have largely channelled their gains towards safer investment avenues instead of increasing their exposure to precious metals.
