Gold Prices Surge as Dollar Weakens
Gold prices have rebounded sharply in August, reaching around $4,400 an ounce after falling by 25% over five months. The price dropped below $4,000 an ounce in mid-July but has since risen by 8% in less than two weeks.
Analysts believe the gold price will continue to climb, with UBS forecasting that it will reach $5,000 again in the first half of 2027. The factors driving the gold price are macroeconomic in nature, including inflation, currency movements, and monetary policy.
The weakening dollar is also contributing to the increase in gold prices, as investors tend to buy more gold when the dollar is weak. Additionally, central banks around the world have been stocking up on gold to diversify away from the dollar since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
