Gold Prices Surge Globally, Break Through Key Technical Levels
Gold prices surged globally in recent days, breaking through key technical levels and reaching a three-month high. According to data from various exchanges, international spot gold rose by approximately 4.5% between August 17th and 21st, closing at around $4,624 per ounce.
The market's upward momentum was driven primarily by a decline in US Treasury yields and the dollar, making gold relatively more attractive to investors. As yields fell, the relative opportunity cost of holding gold decreased, encouraging buying activity. The weakening dollar also increased demand for dollar-denominated bullion from international investors.
Gold prices rose above their 100-day moving average on August 19th and then broke through their 200-day moving average on August 21st, signaling a strong technical trend. This move above the 200-day average is significant, as it often leads to further buying pressure from institutional and algorithmic investors.
The Indian gold market followed suit, with prices rising by approximately 4.8% between August 17th and 22nd. The indicative 24-carat rate in India rose to around Rs 16,309 per gram, equivalent to more than Rs 1.63 lakh per 10 grams.
