Gold Prices Surge on Weakened Dollar and Lower Rate Hike Expectations
Spot gold prices rose by 0.9% to $4,417.24 per ounce on August 17 as the US dollar weakened and interest rate hike expectations fell.
The dollar index dropped to its lowest point in over two months, approaching the significant 100 level.
This decline was largely driven by a pair of economic reports that came in below expectations: July nonfarm payrolls fell by 23,000 jobs, and the inflation rate decreased to 3.4% annually.
The lower interest rate hike expectations shifted the calculus on Fed policy, making gold more attractive as an investment option.
