Gold Prices Tumble Amid Profit-Taking and Rate Expectations

Gold prices took a step back on August 10, 2026, after reaching a seven-week high last week. The decline was largely driven by profit-taking as investors sold some of their holdings to lock in gains following the recent rally.

Spot gold fell around 0.5% to ₹4,322.28 per ounce, while US gold futures declined 0.4% to ₹4,381.60. The drop was not limited to gold as other precious metals also saw a decline: silver down 0.2%, platinum down 0.1%, and palladium down 1.1%.

The next major trigger for gold prices could come from the United States with key Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) data due this week. Markets are closely watching expectations surrounding US interest rates, which could support gold prices if lower rates reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets such as gold.
