Gold Prices Weaken as Stronger Dollar and Higher Yields Take Hold
Gold prices declined on Tuesday as a stronger US dollar and higher yields weighed on bullion gains. Spot gold was trading near $4,031.00 an ounce, down 1.09% on the session. The metal remained above the $4,000 support area but continued to face pressure from currency and interest-rate factors.
The firmer US dollar and elevated Treasury yields have limited gold's upward momentum. The 10-year Treasury yield was near 4.62%, while the 2-year Treasury yield was near 4.31%. At the same time, the US dollar was trading near a one-month high, adding to the pressure on precious metals.
Investors remain focused on the Federal Reserve's upcoming decision, which could influence Treasury yields, the US dollar, and demand for precious metals. The central bank is expected to hold interest rates at this week's meeting, but there is still a possibility of a rate hike, which remains a meaningful risk in market pricing.
