Gold Remains Crucial in Diversified Portfolios Amid Volatility
Gold's performance in 2026 has been marked by sharp swings, but its case as an asset remains strong. The metal offers diversification benefits due to its different drivers compared to stocks and bonds. Central banks' increasing demand for gold also supports the long-term case for investing in it.
In a survey conducted by the World Gold Council on Central Banks' Gold Reserves 2026, 89% of reserve managers expect global central bank gold reserves to increase over the next 12 months. Meanwhile, 83% think that gold will account for a larger share of total reserves five years down the line.
Gold's value lies not in always rising but in providing an additional source of resilience when the assumptions supporting traditional assets come under pressure. Investors should consider it as one component of a diversified portfolio alongside equities, bonds, cash, and other investments.
