Gold Rises as Ebola Outbreak Spreads in DR Congo
Gold and silver futures prices closed higher on Friday, according to international markets.
On the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold futures for December delivery rose by 2.32% to settle at $4,399.70 per ounce, while silver futures for September delivery gained 3.07% to close at $63.499 per ounce.
The current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) continues to spread rapidly, with women and children bearing the brunt of the epidemic, according to the United Nations.
Women and children have been the hardest hit by the epidemic, accounting for nearly a quarter of confirmed cases but almost a third of all deaths, said Farhan Haq, UN deputy spokesman.
