Gold, Silver Prices Plummet as Markets Await Fed Decision
Gold and silver prices have declined today due to investor anticipation of the Federal Reserve's policy decision. The Fed meeting is spooking everyone, causing them to sell first and ask questions later. Gold dropped over 1.2%, down to $4,027 from its opening price of $4,116, while Silver fell almost 2% to $57.337 after being near $60 the previous day.
The strong US dollar and rising Treasury yields have also put pressure on gold prices. Higher interest rates typically reduce demand for precious metals because they do not generate interest income. When bond yields rise, investors often move money into interest-bearing assets, making precious metals less attractive.
China's continued buying of gold despite the decline in prices suggests that long-term trends support demand for precious metals. However, the next move for gold and silver prices will depend largely on the Fed's message after their policy decision.
