Gold Slumps Below $4,400 Amid Escalating Tensions and Rate Hike Speculation
The price of Gold has dipped to nearly $4,400 as tensions in the Middle East escalate and the US Dollar surges. The conflict between Iran and the United States around the Strait of Hormuz has sparked speculation that energy prices will rise, driving inflation higher. This has favored the Greenback, particularly after Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh expressed concerns about elevated inflation while hinting at a possible rate hike in September.
Warsh's comments have lifted the odds for a September rate hike, although some analysts speculate markets will have to wait until October. The precious metal is under pressure not only because of safety demand but also due to speculation that the Fed will go for at least one interest rate hike before year-end. In this scenario, it's hard to imagine the Gold price returning to record levels.
The technical outlook suggests a near-term bearish view, with lower lows likely. However, there will always be buyers to take their chances on dips. The $4,000 psychological threshold remains a strong long-term line in the sand. For XAU/USD to recover its bullish poise, it needs to break through the $4,700 level.
