Gold Surges 13% in August, Reaching New Heights

A strong August performance by gold has cemented its status as a top performer in recent times. The precious metal saw a 13% increase in value, reaching $4,563 per ounce at the end of the month. This makes it one of the best-performing months for gold in a quarter century.

The rise can be attributed to various factors, including ETF flows, futures flows, and options activity. Central banks may also intervene in the market, but without a credible fiscal plan, this is likely to reinforce gold's appeal as a safe-haven asset.

The COMEX net managed money positions saw an increase of 97t (US$13bn) in August. This surge in demand highlights the growing interest in gold among investors.
