Gold Surges as Investors Flee Fiat Currencies
Gold and silver prices have surged in recent weeks as investors become increasingly concerned about the value of fiat currencies. The price of gold has gained approximately 14.6% over the past month, climbing from $4,045 per ounce on July 31 to more than $4,600. Silver has moved even faster, gaining more than 20% and approaching $70.
A Royal Mint survey found that one-third of British adults regretted not investing in gold during the previous five years, while another 30 percent regretted missing the rise in silver. The reluctance to invest in precious metals is common among Western investors, with only 8% of UK adults holding any savings in gold and just 3% owning silver.
Mike Maharrey, host of the Money Metals Midweek Memo, argued that the deeper threat is monetary debasement. Governments benefit from creating and spending additional currency, which gradually erodes the public's purchasing power.
