Gold Surges Past $4,300 as NFP Report Looms
Gold prices have broken above $4,300 an ounce for the first time in recent months. This significant move has sparked speculation about whether XAU/USD can rally towards $4,500 after the release of the July US Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) report.
The breakout comes as investors reassess their outlook for US interest rates, Treasury yields, and the US dollar ahead of the NFP. A weaker-than-expected jobs report could reinforce expectations that the Federal Reserve will have less reason to raise interest rates in September, potentially pushing Treasury yields and the US dollar lower.
Gold's move above $4,300 marks a change in its short-term technical picture. If buyers successfully defend this area after NFP-related volatility, the breakout could become more convincing. However, a strong US jobs report could push gold back below $4,300, while a weak report could provide the catalyst for another upside leg.
