Gold Surges to $4257 Amid Strong Demand and Weak Dollar Policy

Gold prices have surged to $4257, their highest level in six weeks, following a period of base formation and a series of higher highs since June 30.

The rally is attributed to several factors, including Chinese official buying near the $4000 mark, which may have finally appeared after a huge wave of profit taking since March's high of $5400.

Asian demand has also been cited as a potential driver, with buying starting in that region. A short squeeze may have contributed to maintaining momentum, and gold ran through technical levels to maintain the rally.

Behind the scenes, the US devaluation of its currency versus the Japanese yen is seen as a sign of Trump's Treasury department pursuing a weak dollar policy. Additionally, fears of emerging oil importers being forced to sell gold reserves have eased with WTI falling back to $75 and Trump showing no appetite for escalation.

With bullish sentiment on gold washed out, it may not take much to swing momentum in the market's favor, especially given the broader 'buy everything' mode that has taken over since late last week.
