Gold Surges to Best Week Since January Amid Middle Eastern Tensions
Gold prices have surged this week, making it poised for its best performance in over six months. The precious metal rose to $4,284.33 an ounce on Friday, a 1.1% increase from Thursday's price.
The gains come despite tensions in the Middle East, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, which have raised concerns about energy prices and inflation.
Justin Lin, an analyst at Global X ETFs, notes that gold's early-week rally was driven by technical factors rather than a reaction to de-escalation talks between Iran and other nations.
Bullion has erased its previous session decline and is up nearly 6% this week. Inflows into gold-backed exchange-traded funds in China have also contributed to the metal's rise, with institutional investors viewing current prices as an attractive entry point.
