Gold Surges to Fresh Session Highs on Cooler Inflation Data
The latest inflation data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that consumer prices rose by 0.1% in July, matching expectations.
The annual headline inflation rate remained at 3.4%, also in line with forecasts.
The core Consumer Price Index (CPI), which excludes volatile food and energy prices, increased by 0.2% last month, above the flat reading of June.
Annual core inflation rose to 2.5%, in line with economists' expectations.
