Gold Trapped in Tight Range as Tension Persists

Gold has been trading in a tight range between $4,000 and $4,200 for the past couple of weeks, reflecting market uncertainty. This behavior is not necessarily a sign of conviction, but rather hesitation from traders who are wary of carrying positions into weekends when major headlines may break.

The current environment is marked by rising tension in the Middle East, which has kept traders cautious, and the bond market continues to shape the broader macro mood, particularly in the United States. The possibility of an inflationary shock remains a concern across markets, as energy supplies are disrupted and central banks may need to address another cost surge.

The recent death cross, where the 50-day EMA moves below the 200-day EMA, is a longer-term bearish signal that will keep some traders cautious. However, this indicator is often late, so it may be more useful as a sign of existing stress rather than a forecast of what comes next.

For gold to break out of its current range and move higher, there needs to be some form of genuine de-escalation in the Middle East or a settlement of U.S. bond yields, which would ease pressure on the dollar and provide a cleaner path for gold to rise.
