Gold Tumbles as Treasury Yields and Oil Prices Rise Amid Iran Threat
Gold prices slipped to $4,395.78 an ounce this week as rising U.S. Treasury yields and higher oil prices weighed on the metal.
The 0.5% decline in gold was accompanied by a 0.8% drop in silver to $65.24 per ounce and a 0.7% decrease in platinum to $1,760.90.
The increase in oil prices was fueled by Iran's threat of a 'fully offensive' military posture if diplomatic talks with the United States collapse, stoking inflation fears and indirectly pressuring gold prices.
Despite this week's pullback, gold has still climbed more than 10% this month, thanks in part to record central bank buying. Global central banks acquired 244 tonnes of gold in the first quarter of 2026, the highest quarterly total since the fourth quarter of 2024.
