Golden Pass Nears First LNG Production Milestone in Texas
The Golden Pass LNG project in Texas is making progress towards its first LNG production milestone. The project, jointly owned by Exxon Mobil and QatarEnergy, has pulled 300 million cubic feet of gas, according to LSEG data.
This move brings the project closer to becoming one of the largest U.S. LNG export facilities, with an expected annual capacity of 18 million metric tonnes. When completed, it will help the U.S. maintain its position as the world's largest exporter of superchilled gas.
The project has faced delays and cost overruns since construction began in 2019. However, Exxon's CEO Darren Woods expressed optimism during the company's fourth-quarter earnings call, stating that the plant would start producing LNG in March. The $10-billion investment has been a significant undertaking for both partners.
