Government Raises Wheat Price to Sh5,100 Per Bag
Farmers in Kenya are set to earn more from their wheat crops following a government decision to raise the producer price by Sh350 per 90-kilogramme bag.
The new price of Sh5,100 per bag is aimed at improving farmers' earnings and encouraging greater domestic production of wheat, a strategic food crop.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the price was agreed after discussions to balance the interests of farmers, processors, and consumers.
According to the Government, this approach will give priority to locally produced wheat before imports, providing farmers with a ready market while supporting a stable supply of grain to millers and consumers.
