Grain and Livestock Markets Surge on Crop Tour Findings
The grain and livestock markets are showing strength in response to lower corn yield and soy pod counts from the ongoing Midwest crop tour. This has led to higher prices for December corn, November soybeans, December Kansas City wheat, December Chicago wheat, and December MIAX wheat. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down, while the U.S. Dollar Index and October crude oil are also experiencing fluctuations.
Private exporters reported sales of 150,000 metric tons (5.5 mb) of soybeans for delivery to unknown destinations during the 2026/2027 marketing year. This has contributed to the rise in grain prices. The beef net sales of 9,300 mt for 2026 were down 36% from the previous week and 37% from the prior 4-week average, while pork net sales of 27,300 mt for 2026 were down 25% from the previous week and 15% from the prior 4-week average.
The cash cattle market is quiet at Thursday's open, with no bids on the table but expected packer interest to improve throughout the day. The prices for October live cattle are up, while September feeder cattle and October lean hogs are experiencing declines. December corn and December soybean meal are also showing increases.
