Grain Concept Stocks Surge Amid Global Food Crisis Fears
A surge in grain concept stocks has led to a market frenzy, with many companies hitting their daily limits. Qiule Seed and Shennong Seed rose by more than 10% during trading, while Jinjian Rice Industry and Nongfa Seed hit the daily limit strongly. Other companies such as Kangnong Seed, Deep Grain Holdings, and Dunhuang Seed also followed suit.
The rise in grain concept stocks is attributed to a recent report by JPMorgan Chase, which warned of a potential global food crisis next year due to factors such as war, weather, warehousing, water, and waste. The report predicts that the disruption of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and a historic super El Niño event could severely weaken crop yields and restrict agricultural production.
The impact on fertilizer supply chains is particularly concerning, with major global production hubs for potash and urea located in the Middle East. A blockage in transportation would inevitably lead to higher fertilizer prices, pushing up global planting costs.
However, domestic policies are also playing a crucial role in supporting the grain market. China's provinces of Jiangxi, Hunan, and Henan have launched market-supporting purchases, injecting a boost into the grain market that has been under pressure due to consecutive years of good harvests, abundant inventories, and weak demand growth.
Despite the rise in grain prices, some analysts are cautioning against getting too optimistic. JPMorgan Chase's warning is for next year, and there is still a long gap between expectation and actual reality. Additionally, some companies such as Jinjian Rice Industry have encountered operational troubles and may not be as promising as their stock prices suggest.
