Grain Futures Rise as Crude Oil Surges Amid Middle East Tensions
Grain futures were mostly higher overnight, led by wheat, which saw prices rise 19 to 22 cents. December corn was up 3.5 cents, while November soybeans gained 1.75 cents.
The USDA's weekly export inspections and crop progress reports are due out today, but will be a day late due to the Labor Day holiday. The more important report for grain markets is Friday's monthly supply and demand data from the USDA.
Crude oil prices surged to a three-month high of around $94 per barrel after Saudi Arabia was attacked by Iran-backed Houthi militants, halting several energy facilities in the south.
Ukraine's wheat exports rose 80% last week, with shipments reaching 433,700 metric tons. The country's corn exports also increased, but soybean exports remained steady.
