Grain Market Expectations Shift as Yield Forecasts Tighten
DTN's yield forecasts suggest potential upside for grain markets due to tightening production expectations. The U.S. corn yield estimate at 173.2 bushels per acre (BPA) and soybeans at 53.3 BPA are still considered too high by some experts. In contrast, DTN's predictions put the corn yield at 178.5 BPA and soybeans at 52.1 BPA.
A recent crop tour in Ontario showed a final corn yield of 200 BPA, a new record high, while soybean yields were shy of the 2024 high at 58 BPA. August rainfall across parts of the Ohio Valley and core of the U.S. Midwest prime crop land has caused severe damage to crops.
The U.S. and Canada have yet to finalize a trade agreement, leaving proposed 50% U.S. tariffs set to take effect on Saturday. This development could impact grain exports.
