Grain Market Soars on Black Sea War Disruptions
The grain market has seen a sharp rally for the week, with corn and wheat reaching three-year highs and soybeans hitting 2.5 year highs.
This surge is primarily driven by wheat, which was initially fueled by drought concerns in Europe and shrinking crop sizes there.
However, the escalation of the war in the Black Sea has supercharged the market, with nearly 50% of export capacity lost due to port disruptions and vessel damage.
Don Roose, a commodities expert, estimates that wheat prices in Russia have dropped below $3 in some areas due to reduced shipping capabilities.
The situation is exacerbated by ongoing crop issues, including disease outbreaks in the Eastern Corn Belt and dry conditions in the Western Corn Belt.
