Grain Market Volatility Surges Amid Russia-Ukraine Tensions
The global grain market experienced mixed movements last week, according to the latest Arable Market Report from AHDB. UK feed wheat futures for November 2026 reached a high of £219.25 per tonne on Wednesday but fell later in the week, closing at £212.50 per tonne.
Global wheat prices dipped after Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested a possible peace deal with Ukraine, shifting from earlier statements ruling out such a possibility. December 2026 Paris wheat futures lost 1.9% week-on-week, while Chicago wheat futures fell by 6.4%, due in part to speculative selling.
Market attention remains focused on potential Russia-Ukraine negotiations and their impact on Black Sea export levels. Latvia and Lithuania may restrict or ban Russian exports from their Black Sea ports, with government meetings scheduled this week.
