Grain Markets Hit by Familiar Supply Pressures
Global grain markets are facing renewed supply concerns due to drought and disruptions in trade flows. According to ANZ's Agri InFocus report, dry conditions across major producing regions have reduced production prospects, particularly for high-protein wheat.
The ongoing conflict in the Black Sea region has restricted exports from both Ukraine and Russia, further tightening supply chains.
ANZ Associate Director of Agribusiness Research, Madeleine Swan, notes that 'the global grain market is once again facing the twin challenges of weather-related production losses and geopolitical disruption to trade flows.'
Australia may benefit from these developments as its hard wheat is well-placed due to drought impacting high-protein wheat production in the US and reducing availability from the Black Sea region.
