Grain Markets Hold Steady Ahead of Crucial USDA Report
Grain markets in the US finished the week quietly ahead of next Wednesday's release of the USDA's World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report. The anticipation of fresh fundamental direction led to a stable trading session, with corn futures ending nearly flat despite continued export activity.
The market is waiting for the USDA's assessment of US crop production, export demand, and global supply. Analysts surveyed ahead of the August WASDE expect the national average yield at 182.4 bushels per acre, which would be near-record production. Weather forecasts calling for additional rainfall across parts of the Corn Belt continue to influence yield expectations.
Wheat markets, however, saw a strong technical rally as traders shifted attention to global risks and geopolitical tensions. Rising crude oil prices, continued conflict around Iran, and disruptions in the Black Sea region renewed concerns over global grain exports. The Senate Agriculture Committee's failure to advance the latest version of the Farm Bill adds policy uncertainty to an already volatile environment.
