Grain markets experienced a significant rally on September 10, driven by technical buying and robust domestic and export demand. The uncertainty surrounding U.S. crop yields also contributed to the market's upward movement.

The USDA's upcoming WASDE report is expected to be a crucial indicator of corn yields, which are poised to reshape prices, storage decisions, and farm margins. Weather conditions have added another layer of uncertainty, with Northern Missouri and southern Iowa potentially receiving 0.75 inch of rainfall over the weekend, while other parts of the Corn Belt may see only trace amounts.

Corn futures rose sharply, with December corn gaining 6 cents to settle at $5.3375 per bushel, and March reaching $5.4925. The market is particularly sensitive to USDA's next yield number due to strong demand. Analysts surveyed by Reuters placed the average expected U.S. corn yield at 178.2 bushels per acre, down from the August estimate of 180.7 bpa.

Soybean futures surged even more strongly, with November futures increasing by 22.75 cents to $13.3225 per bushel, and January futures climbing 22 cents to $13.4725. The buying was driven by export demand, with private exporters reporting another 10 million bushels sold to China and 7.6 million bushels to undisclosed destinations for delivery in the 2026/27 marketing year.

Winter wheat also joined the rally, supported by technical buying, expensive crude oil, and geopolitical concerns involving the Middle East and Black Sea region. December Chicago SRW wheat gained 12.5 cents to $7.4125 per bushel, while Kansas City HRW added 12.5 cents to $8.1875.
