Grain Markets Reach Contract Highs Amid Ukraine-Russia Peace Talks
Grain markets continued their bullish momentum in August, reaching contract and multiyear highs for wheat, corn, and soybeans. The wheat rally slowed down midweek due to talk of renewed Russia-Ukraine peace efforts that could ease export bottlenecks, causing a drop in prices.
Corn prices also dipped, but were cushioned by firmer energy prices and solid demand. Soybean futures saw a relief rally after the EPA's SRE announcement, with further support coming from deteriorating crop conditions and strong demand from China.
Cattle futures stabilized on short-covering and bargain hunting, while lean hog futures consolidated after a short-covering bounce. The cash markets remained firm despite lackluster cutout performance.
