Grain Markets Tense Ahead of USDA Export Sales Data
The grain markets are facing uncertainty ahead of the USDA's weekly export sales data release. Wheat markets were mixed at the close of business on August 5, with Chicago wheat finishing slightly higher but appearing subdued for the weekend. Meanwhile, Kansas City futures saw gains across the board.
Concerns over Black Sea export flows have intensified due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has led to attacks on vessels and ports in recent weeks. Algeria has made a notable purchase of an estimated 720,000 metric tons of wheat this past Wednesday.
Soybeans have eased from their high above $1198, trading at around $1167 as of midweek. Analysts expect USDA export sales of 100K~400K metric tons for the final week of July 2026, with new-crop business projected at 0.9 to 1.55 million metric tons.
