Grain and oilseed prices surged on Wednesday due to concerns over Russian President Vladimir Putin's potential escalation of the war in Ukraine, which could disrupt grain vessel traffic in the Black Sea.
The Chicago Board of Trade saw significant gains, with soft wheat futures increasing by 45 cents per bushel, hard red winter wheat rising by about 40 cents, and spring wheat improving by 30 cents.
Severe weather is also a threat to crops in the U.S. Central Plains, with high winds and large hail forecasted for parts of the region today.
The European Union's soft wheat exports have decreased, totaling 2.38 million tonnes since July 1, down from 3.56 million tonnes last year.
Corn prices reached three-year highs due to hot and dry conditions forecasted for the U.S. Corn Belt next week.
