Greek Fuel Prices Skyrocket as Brent Crude Hits $91 a Barrel
Fuel prices in Greece have surged to new heights as Brent crude rallies, causing travel costs to soar. The price of unleaded petrol has exceeded €2 per litre in dozens of regions across the country, with the highest prices recorded on tourist islands such as Lesvos and the Cyclades.
The rise in international oil prices is attributed to the difficulty in transporting oil and natural gas from the Middle East due to security concerns and reduced tanker traffic. This has led to a sustained uncertainty across global energy markets, causing Brent crude to trade above $91 a barrel for the first time since July 30, 2025.
The impact on the Greek market is expected to be significant, with analysts predicting that prices will continue to rise if normal shipping traffic in the region is not restored. The measures introduced by refineries and the government, such as discounts and subsidies, have helped limit the burden on consumers, but these may soon be insufficient to counteract the upward trend.
