Greek Patriots Down Drones Over Saudi Oil Refineries

A Greek-operated Patriot air defense system in Saudi Arabia has intercepted a swarm of drones in the Yanbu region, home to major oil refining facilities.

This is the third time the Greek-operated system has been used in combat since the US-Israeli war on Iran began. The widening military role of European allies in defending Gulf energy infrastructure underscores the growing importance of international cooperation in this area.

The Greek Patriot system, which has been deployed in Saudi Arabia since 2021 under an agreement to help protect the kingdom's energy facilities, engaged the drones in coordination with Saudi air defense systems.
