Green Chile Lateral Loses Fast Track, Delaying AI Fuel Supply Decision
Energy Transfer's Green Chile natural gas lateral has lost its fast-track review status, pushing back a decision on the project's fate until December. This move by federal regulators means that the proposed pipeline, meant to supply Oracle and OpenAI's Project Jupiter data center campus in New Mexico with 400 million cubic feet per day (Mcf/d) of gas, will have to meet stricter requirements before approval.
The Green Chile Lateral project aims to connect the Apache Gathering System to Transwestern Pipeline's mainline. However, state officials have blocked access to trust lands, which has caused delays in the project's development.
According to a commission set deadline, a decision on the project is now expected by December 3rd. This delay could impact the data center campus' ability to meet its power demands, particularly given its reliance on AI fuel supply from the proposed pipeline.
