GTT Raises LNG Carrier Order Forecast on Surging Investment
French engineering firm Gaztransport & Technigaz has raised its forecast for liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier design orders over the next decade. The company now expects to receive about 550 orders between 2026 and 2035, up from a previous estimate of more than 450.
The 'main element' behind this upward revision is the acceleration of investment in liquefaction capacities, particularly in the US, said CEO Francois Michel. In the first half of this year alone, final investment decisions were made on 84 million tons per year of new LNG capacity, followed by another 37 million tons.
This surge in investment has been driven by a growing demand for LNG, particularly in Asia and Europe. As Asian gas consumption continues to rise, South Korean and Chinese shipyards, as well as companies like GTT, are benefiting from the wave of new LNG export terminal projects from the US to Qatar.
