Guyana Expands Regional Energy Partnerships as Oil Production Grows
Guyana is expanding its energy partnerships across the Caribbean as its rapidly growing oil sector drives closer regional cooperation on upstream development, infrastructure, and energy security.
The country has recently signed several agreements with Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and other regional partners to extend collaboration beyond offshore exploration and production to include cross-border investment, refining, infrastructure, and commercial development.
In June, Guyana and Jamaica signed four bilateral agreements, including the creation of a joint energy working group to advance cooperation through knowledge sharing, infrastructure development, and initiatives aimed at strengthening regional energy security.
The agreement builds on a broader regional strategy. In May, Guyana and the Dominican Republic formalized an upstream partnership through an agreement covering the Berbice Block, under which Dominican state-owned refiner Refinería Dominicana de Petróleo acquired a 10% participating interest in the block.
