Hanwha Ocean and HD Hyundai Unveil Cutting-Edge Ship Tech at Gastech

Domestic shipbuilders Hanwha Ocean and HD Hyundai are showcasing their cutting-edge technologies at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. The world's largest energy exhibition is being held from the 14th to the 17th (local time), featuring over 1,000 companies from around the globe.

Hanwha Ocean will unveil its independently developed floating data center (FDC) for the first time at the exhibition. This 'data center on the sea' uses seawater for cooling and is being touted as an alternative to address challenges in securing land for onshore data centers.

According to Hanwha Ocean, the FDC is aimed at meeting the surging demand for data centers driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI). The company's representative explained that 'it is drawing attention as a solution to address challenges such as land acquisition and cooling costs.'

HD Hyundai will showcase next-generation eco-friendly gas carrier technologies, including models of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, floating LNG production and storage facilities (FSRU), and liquefied carbon dioxide carriers. The FSRU is a 'mobile LNG terminal' that can be used as a ship-type facility to receive, store, and supply LNG.
