Hanwha Ocean Lands Massive Order for Six LNG Dual-Fuel Container Ships
Hanwha Ocean has secured a massive order from Taiwan's Yang Ming Marine Transport for six liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container ships. The contract, worth 1.5527 trillion won, was signed on September 3 and calls for the vessels to be built at Hanwha Ocean's Geoje shipyard.
The new LNG dual-fuel container ships will be delivered sequentially through the second half of 2029, expanding Yang Ming's fleet. This is not the first order from Yang Ming for Hanwha Ocean; in September last year, the company ordered seven 15,880-TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships.
Hanwha Ocean will utilize its independently developed Type-B LNG fuel tanks made of high-manganese steel, which offers greater cost competitiveness than conventional materials. The company also plans to apply hull-form optimization technology to improve fuel efficiency and operational efficiency.
